The DGT has denied that it is studying the introduction of a license, registration or insurance for bicycles.
The DGT regrets the misrepresentation that is being made in relation to the meeting on cycling held last Saturday at the Centro Superior de Educación Vial de Salamanca de Tráfico.
The meeting was aimed at bringing together social agents, associations and institutions of the cycling universe to know the different visions of the protagonists.
The day has been very well received by most of the groups. Only one of them is trying to obstruct the process that the DGT has initiated to try to channel the phenomenon of cycling as a sustainable means of transport.
Most groups agree on the need to draw up a Strategic Plan for cycling, with the participation of administrations, associations and cycling groups, to define the basic guidelines. This task is entrusted to Working Group 44, on cyclists, which operates within the High Traffic Council, in order to make further progress.
The need for voluntary training for cyclists was also highlighted, as well as the need to evaluate the inclusion of coverage for cyclists in personal or home insurance, also on a voluntary basis.
The conclusions reached at the meeting, in which all the participants agreed, did not speak at any time of registration, licensing or compulsory insurance.
