The DGT will allow to obtain a truck driver's license at 18 years of age.

The Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) will lower the age allowed to obtain a truck driving license from 21 to 18 years old because it assures that there is a “lack” of drivers of this type of vehicles.

This was stated by the Director General of Traffic, Gregorio Serrano: “We cannot allow that Spain is still the only country where you have to wait until you are 21 years old for a man or a woman to get a license to drive a truck”.

Although without specifying the calendar, he has advanced that “very soon” 18 year olds will have the possibility, as it happens in the rest of Europe, to get their license to drive trucks. “Spain will not be the only country in this sense, among other issues we are working on”.

This measure would be included in the General Regulations for Drivers, since the Traffic Law does not include the ages allowed to obtain the different driving licenses for each vehicle.
